 | Big Blue sets out on an expedition to discover the secrets of the blue whale, and reveal its unknown calving and breeding grounds. National Geographic has supported the research of the worlds top blue whale scientist for years. Now, by working with them, we go on a mission around the globe. We dive deep under the surface with blue whales to discover what they do at depth. We use satellite tags to reveal their mammoth migrations. We identify individual whales to understand populations. DNA analysis reveals gender related behavioral differences. We explore the sea floor and water currents to uncover blue whale feeding strategies. Hydro acoustic microphones reveal whale song and whole dialects in blue whale communication. Ultimately we follow the California population of blue whales to a remote area of open ocean off Costa Rica . If we and our scientists are right, we will reveal the secret calving and breeding grounds of blue whales. (less) Actors: National Geographic | $13 - $22 12 Merchants |

| | Hallowed Ground is the fourth release from country/rock/folk/psychedelic act I See Hawks In L.A. Formed in 1999 by songwriting team Rob Waller and Paul Lacques, the Hawks have traveled far from their humble back porch in sunny southern California. In 2001, their eponymous debut established the Hawks signature sound: high lonesome three part harmonies, twang guitar and unadorned acoustic arrangements, with lyrics musing on mortality, whales, and the geography of a fading pre-apocalyptic L.A. Fan favorite Grapevine followed in 2004 with California Country emerging in 2006. Legendary California country artists such as The Byrd's Chris Hillman joined in and strummed right along. And now here's Hallowed Ground . The album carries much that Hawks fans have grown to expect: those beautiful harmonies, timeless songwriting, and epic psychedelic guitar and steel. The Hawks have hit their stride. These songs cover a wide ranging territory, yet it all fits together into the Hawks underlying phi... (less)Artist: I See Hawks In L.A. | $7 - $13 7 Merchants |
| | Folks who generally shy away from Boulez's Mahler ought to hear this performance. It's a whale of a good time, plain and simple. Far from being cold and analytical, the first movement positively glows with romantic warmth. Boulez is especially generous with the big retard leading to the first movement's climax, where the Chicago brass literally whoop it up, just as Mahler demands. The second movement is fast, but never lacking in charm, while the funeral march of the third movement has the right quality of cartoon ghoulishness. Good klezmer-like interludes, too, if not quite up to Kubelik's incomparable standard. Best of all, the finale positively blazes--no dragging, no underplayed climaxes--simply a blast from beginning to end. Indeed, it's hard to dismiss the notion that the usually cerebral Boulez is simply getting a naughty thrill letting his Chicagoans play the pants off of this most colorful of romantic symphonies. They've recorded it at least four times previously (for Giul... (less)Artist: | $8 - $18 7 Merchants |
