| | Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree. Galatians 3: 13 Is there really such thing as a curse? Isn''t'' that witchcraft or something? If we are under the Blood we are no longer under the curse; so isn''t that all we need to know as Christians? Is there some evil force hiding in the closet that plays any part in our ability to serve freely the LORD Jesus? (less)Lifevest Publishing, Inc. - 9781598794182 | $7 - $13 4 Merchants |

| | Chapter 5brThe alarm rang at six-thirty. And that's when I learned that my mother doesn't even wake up the way she used to. No snooze button. No moaning and groaning. No "Oh, please!" from under the covers. Instead, she clicked off the buzz, swung out of bed, smiled, and cried, "It's gone! It's completely gone!"brI wanted to moan and groan and say "Oh, please!" from under the covers, but instead I asked, "Your headache?"brShe stands up. "Yes! C'mon, girls. Rise and shine! I told LeBrandi we'd switch back right at six-thirty. She's got to get her things, and I've got to get mine." She comes over and sits on my edge of the bed. "Samantha, I'm really sorry about this. About all of this. And I'll come home the first chance I get so that we can talkónow that I know you want to talk. But I think you can see that this is not the time to discuss things. If I can get the part of Jewel, then we'll have some options. But in order for me to do that, I've got to live and breathe nothing but Jewel so that I can become sort of a reincarnation of her."brMarissa sits up and rubs her eyes. "Why can't you just be a new Jewel?"brMy mother takes a deep breath and lets it out slowly. "Jewel is already an established character. And sure, it'd be a lot more fun for me to do my own interpretation of her, but this is a big, big role. The casting director has made it very clear that the producer wants to fill the part as closely as possible in likeness, manner, and voice to the old Jewel, so that Lords fans will embrace her return. Once you're accepted by the viewers, then you can start making subtle changes."br"Is that why your hair's all . . ." Marissa ruffled the top of her head, trying to find the words.br"Exactly. It has really helped me get into character. Max says it also shows commitment, which is something this casting director is looking for. And now that I think about i?Ð (less) | $0 - $4 2 Merchants |

Excerpt from book: SIR JOHN FALSTAFF I PROPOSE this evening to tell you the story of a very singular historical development, how the greatest humorous creation of Shakspeare grew out of something, on the first glance, as remote from it as possible; and by what a curious series of fatalities the popular tradition of a real person, and one noted chiefly for his connexion with a Protestant religious movement, was gradually modified into the witty and unscrupulous knight we all know so well. For it was one of the most famous followers of John Wiclif, Sir John Old- castle, who is the undeniable origin of Sir John Falstaff. The outline of the story connecting the two is familiar to Shakspearian scholars, but it will bear telling over again, and I think you will not grudge my occupying my first ten minutes or so in a brief historical summary, seeing that I shall hope to show you later on how Shakspeare's character bears unmistakably in the grain of it certain ineffaceable marks of its origin. Let me first briefly remind you of what history tells us of the real Sir John Oldcastle. He was born in Edward III.'s reign, probably about the year 1360. Whether of Welsh origin or not, I cannot tell you, but his earlier military services were rendered in Wales and in the adjoining counties of England, and in 1406 we find him High Sheriff of Herefordshire. But in 1409 he made a very important and distinguished marriage. He married (as her fourth husband) the granddaughter and heiress of the wealthy and powerful nobleman Lord Cobham of Cowling Castle, near Rochester ; and, after the usual custom, inherited the title as well as the estates of his wife's family, and in the twelfth year of Henry IV.'s reign (1411) was summoned to Parliament by the title, by which he came to be familiarly known, of Lord Cobham....@AJ=p£×ÿ¾Û€ (less) | $35 A1Books |
| | "Whoso List to Hunt is one of thirty sonnets written by Sir Thomas Wyatt. Although Wyatt never published his poems, several, including ""Whoso List to Hunt,"" appeared in the 1557 edition of the printer Richard Tottel's Songs and Sonnets written by the Right Honorable Lord Henry Howard late Earl of Surrey and other, more briefly referred to as Tottel's Miscellany. ""Whoso List to Hunt"" is held to be Wyatt's imitation of ""Rime 190,"" written by Petrarch, a fourteenth-century Italian poet and scholar. In ""Whoso List to Hunt,"" Wyatt describes a hunt wherein a deer is pursued and ultimately owned by the royal who owns the land. Scholars generally believe that the poem is an allegory referring to Anne Boleyn's courtship by King Henry VIII, such that when Wyatt speaks of the deer as royal property not to be hunted by others, he is acknowledging that Anne has become the property of the King alone. Wyatt was said to have been interested in Anne-and may have been her lover-but would have withdrawn as a suitor after the King made clear his wish to claim her. Wyatt introduced the sonnet, a fourteen-line poem with a fixed format and rhyme scheme, to England. Despite not publishing his poetry, Wyatt would have made his poems readily available to others. During the Elizabethan period, poets passed their work around in aristocratic circles, in what has been described as a sort of game of one-upmanship: each poet's work inspired his readers to create something comparable or better...." Excerpt from book: CHAPTER III The Education Of Jesus The Home Circle. We know the most essential things about the home of Jesus, for we know the character of Joseph and Mary, and we also know something about the brothers and sisters. Joseph and Mary belonged to that small circle of Jews who, even in the time when Pharisaism dominated the life of the people, maintained a spiritual religion. To this circle belonged John the Baptist with his parents, and also Simeon and Anna. Joseph was a righteous man (Matt. i. 19), and obedient to the will of the Lord as that was made known to him (Matt. i. 24; ii. 14, 21-22). Like Abraham, he had a heart that was open to receive heavenly messages, and he was not slow to respond to them. He appears in the Gospel narrative as having implicit trust in Mary, and the tenderest regard for her (Matt. i. 19-21). He seems to have taught Jesus his own trade of carpenter (Mark vi. 3; Matt. xiii. 55), thus fitting his child to support Himself. He lived until Jesus was twelve years old (Luke ii. 42), and perhaps considerably longer,1 but he seems to havedied before the public ministry of Jesus began (Matt. xiii. 55; Mark vi. 3). Jesus never refers in a direct manner to His earthly father, but it seems natural to suppose that the fatherhood which He had known in the home in Nazareth was to him a stepping-stone to the conception and the experience of the heavenly fatherhood ; and if so, it must have been rich in love and wisdom. Again, it may be allowable to think that Jesus' appreciation of childhood, His love for children, and His sympathy with them, argue sweet memories of His own childhood, and hence throw a gracious light upon Joseph and Mary (Mark x. 13-16; ix. 36; Matt. xviii. 10). From the glimpses which we have into the early life of Jesus, and from His work as ...@6¸Që…ÿ¾Û€ (less) | $22 A1Books |
