 | When I sit down to write a song, I'm one person with one guitar. I get the feel, the words, the melody, chord progressions and rhythm. I think of it as being much like an artist who does a pencil sketch prior to a painting. I bring my songs to other musicians and they fill in their own special colors and bring new life to the songs. This CD has a "live' feel and lots of heart, and some fine musicians. I hope you emjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed making it. | This is the first, and most complete, original cast album of the score of Lucky Stiff by Stephen Flaherty & Lynn Ahrens. It features Broadway stars Malcolm Gets, Mary Testa and Janet Metz. The recording was made in New York during the show's run at The York Theatre. Lucky Stiff is a musical adaptation of the novel The Man Who Broke the Bank at Monte Carlo, and follows the escapades of Harry Witherspoon, who will inherit six million dollars from his recently deceased uncle if he will take the stuffed corpse to Monte Carlo for the vacation that his Uncle Anthony never had! Lucky Stiff is the very first musical by Flaherty & Ahrens, who have since become two of the leading lights of Broadway - Ragtime, Sussical, My Favorite Year and more. | Dedicated to the superheroes who decorated your underwear when you were a kid (and many more who didn't), Defenders lets listeners revisit a time when a world in which men who could fly, climb skyscrapers, and morph into green monsters seemed possible. Naturally this lends itself to camp with such kitschy songs as "Wonder Woman," "Astro Boy," and "Batman." There are also some serious compositions that hold up surprisingly well, like "Superman: The Movie," "Escape from New York," and the melancholy "Incredible Hulk," plus "Knight Rider" and "The Six Million Dollar Man." Despite a few glaring omissions-- Battle of the Planets , The Omega Man , and Flash Gordon --diversity reigns on Defenders as it progresses from outer space cadets to costumed crusaders to technologically enhanced heroes. Now if only they'd included a life-size poster of Lynda Carter... --Bryan Reesman (less)Artist: Various Artists | $7 - $19 7 Merchants |
