| We could not find any results for reunion blues jazz brasswinds showing results only for reunion blues jazz | | Reunion Island is a volcanic island east of Madagascar in the southern Indian Ocean. A virtual secret to the non-francophone world, it possesses one of the world's richest cultural and musical mixes – a volcanic, passionate, joyous, sexy and rhythmic lifestyle. Réunion Island is the home of sega, a unique style of music that contains some of the world's most soulful sounds. Sega evokes the same feelings as the blues, reflecting the absorption of French musette harmonies with a hint of jazz influence. Claire Fontaine and Jean-Pierre Boyer: two names that are synonymous with the great period of sega. All their great hits have been brought together on this album, which will bring back fond memories for all those who already know and love Réunion and will introduce those who don't to the sincerity and authenticity of the creole spirit. | | With Percy Heath technically in retirement on Long Island, Jimmy Heath freshly retired from Queens College, and Tootie Heath ready for action, the Heath Brothers had the time to quickly follow their first reunion album with another first-rate collection of bop-based small-combo jazz. On "East of the Sun (And West of the Moon)" and "Easy Living," a brass quartet is added, with Jimmy's elegant writing casting a thoughtful veil of subdued color over the combo. Guitarist Tony Purrone, a mainstay of the first Heath band, returns in fine form; Jeb Patton, a student of Jimmy's at Queens College, is the capable pianist; and three trumpet soloists (veteran Joe Wilder, Earl Gardner, and Tom Williams) take turns in that chair, although the liners offer incomplete information about who appears on which track. Percy again comes to the foreground repeatedly (in contrast with his supporting role in the MJQ); "Move to the Groove" is another of Percy's sly blues grooves, and he solos on "jazz cello"... | | The popular aphorism that "there are no second acts in America" has been contradicted by the surprising reincarnation of the Allman Brothers Band after highway deaths, drug trials and artistic lethargy hammered more than one nail in the group's coffin. After breaking up in '81, the four surviving original members, Gregg Allman, Dickey Betts, Butch Trucks and Jaimoe, reunited for a 20th anniversary tour in 1989. The results were so unexpectedly good that the band decided to stick together and have released their fourth post-reunion album, Where It All Began . Why did the Allmans' reunion succeed where so many rock and roll reunions have flopped? The Allmans' concept hasn't changed, but like the jazz and blues legends they admire, they play a little differently each time. --Geoffrey Himes (less)Artist: The Allman Brothers Band | $2 - $8 8 Merchants |

| | When Cannonball Adderley scheduled the 1958 recording of what was to be his only Blue Note LP, he called on his old employer from their days as quintet members on Columbia, Miles Davis. The reunion resulted in one of the greatest and most revered Jazz LP's ever: "Something Else". The quintet delivers beautiful strong renditions of "Autumn Leaves", "Love For Sale", "One For Daddy-O", "Dancing In The Dark" and the title tune. Cut from the original first generation analog masters, it sizzles. (less)Artist: Cannonball Adderley | $18 - $24 4 Merchants |
| | British pop icon Alison Moyet returns with her first solo album in four years and a highly anticipated Yaz summer reunion tour. Critically acclaimed in the UK, The Turn will reintroduce her to this side of the pond at "her most fabulous" as noted by The Guardian. Showcasing various influences from pop, jazz and blues, The Turn sees Moyet at her best and most self-assured. Her trademark, timeless vocals coupled with heartfelt and mature lyrics are poised to take her career to even greater heights. All eleven songs were co-written and produced by multi-instrumentalist and long time musical partner Peter Glenister (Terence Trent D'Arby, Bryan Ferry and Beth Gibbons or Portishead, among others.) Stand-out tracks include; the emotively strong "One More Time," the fun and upbeat "A Guy Like You" and "Anytime at All" which beautifully feature her soaring vocals. Three of the songs ("Smaller," the tango-flavored "Home," and "World Without End") were written for and performed in 2006 f... (less)Artist: Alison Moyet | $5 - $16 8 Merchants |
| | In the early '60s, pianist Paul Bley's trios did much to expand the role of bass and drums, developing a conversational intimacy at the intersection of bop, modal, and free jazz. One of the best of those groups consisted of bassist Gary Peacock and drummer Paul Motian (Bill Evans's rhythm section in the same period), but their only recording as a trio was part of Paul Bley with Gary Peacock from 1963. While the two have worked extensively with Bley in different settings through the years, this 1998 meeting was the first time they had recorded as a trio in 35 years. They touch on the previous session with Bley's "Fig Foot," a taut rethinking of the blues, but this is much more than a reunion. Each of these musicians is a virtuoso of space and the telling gesture, an inspired inventor possessed of an edgy creativity and willing to lead this sometimes pensive, sometimes rapturous music into new directions. Along with the sheer sonic beauty, there's probing, too, as in the alternately t... (less)Artist: Paul Bley | $15 - $19 3 Merchants |
| | Organist Jack McDuff may be known mostly for introducing the world to guitarist George Benson in the early 1960s, but he's also always been a funky jazz organist of the first rank. Both sides of McDuff's legacy are on display on his new Bringin' It Home , and the result is a blues, jazz, and funk-drenched album that sounds like it was cut at a smoky after-hours party. With Benson guesting on three tracks, and saxophonist Red Holloway and guitarist Mark Whitfield on several more, Bringin' It Home has the feel of a family reunion where everyone knows each other and every lick is tasty. Benson's stunning solo on "Summertime" is enough to reestablish his place in the jazz guitar pantheon, and Holloway's playing is fiery throughout. Whitfield holds his own and then some with a head-turning solo on "Girl Talk." But the real star is McDuff, whose sumptuous Hammond B-3 style dominates whether providing a backdrop for his capable sidemen or stepping out with tasty solos on tunes like Eddie H... | | October Allied's music straddles the past and the future of rock-and-roll. Masters of post-punk modernism who have become serious students of blues, country, jazz, r&b, and soul, the band s honest reverence of their musical heritage is unmistakable, but never takes the form of revivalism. October Allied has crafted a unique sound. Dual guitars, colored only by the tasteful reverb and overdrive Leo Fender intended, interlock over precise bass lines and jazzy drum beats. Powerful, gritty lead vocals yield to sweet 3 part harmonies. The rhythms compel you to dance, but the lyrics and arrangements defy convention for an effect that is both exciting and unnerving. Formed in 1999 after a chance reunion of east coast expatriates in an Oakland bar, October Allied has built a reputation as a live band that is not to be missed through countless performances around the San Francisco Bay Area and western US. With the its sophomore full-length recording, Point Me South", October Allied h... (less)Artist: October Allied | $12 - $18 2 Merchants |
