Siepi and Corena are a classic team, while the ladies, Steber, Della Casa, and Peters, owned these roles in New York. Peerce is at his lyrically solid best, while Uppmann and Giorgio Tozzi add depth to the lower register!! As well, the very historic extensive 1934 excerpts with Pinza, Ponselle, and Schipa, although in poor sound, is valuable and essential in that they preserve a classic cast in important roles. These excerpts have been rarely and sporadically available over the years, and this is a rare opportunity to obtain them. Pinza and Schipa are at their youthful best, and it is possible here to understand the miracle that was Ponselle!! Serafin is a classic leader through the score!  (less)
