 | You have never heard anything like this, unless you are a collector of Song-Poems! The first nine songs began as poems received by email, then set to music by the one-man-band of David Dubowski. It's all done from his home, with lots of real drums, guitar, bass, percussion, and an eight track multitrack digital recorder with only a smattering of drum machine. The sound is, well, hard to classify. Some are rockers, some are pop, and some folk-rock. The result is the classic song-poem sound. They differ from historic song-poems in that much care and time was taken to make them as good as possible, even though they were all recorded at home. Amyy Keith gives some nice female vocals on one track. And there are non-songpoem bonus tracks at the end, two from the ancient pre-digital days of 1985. No matter what, song-poems are the most unusual genre of music history. Check them out! This product is manufactured on demand using CD-R recordable media. Amazon.com's standard return policy wi... | | Tim McGraw Reflected: Hits Vol 2, his second collection of greatest hits. Showcasing a body of work bookended by 1994's "Not A Moment Too Soon" and 2006's "My Old Friend," it is a reminder of the consistency and depth that have made him such an icon. Several of the songs are drawn from two albums he recorded in a mountaintop retreat with his touring band, 2002's Tim McGraw & the Dancehall Doctors, and 2004's Live Like You Were Dying. Together, they sold seven million copies, and between them they produced hits like "Watch The Wind Blow By," "Red Ragtop," "She's My Kind of Rain," "Real Good Man," and the ten-week #1, "Live Like You Were Dying," all of which are included here. The project also includes "Everywhere," from the CD of the same name, and "Grown Men Don't Cry" and "The Cowboy In Me," from 2001's "Set This Circus Down." | | This second greatest hits collection serves up the band's classic mid- '60s period, capped off by the death of Brian Jones for whom this collection is dedicated. Having made their breakthrough with hits that challenged the status quo, the Stones were in no mood to calm down. The insistent chaos of "Have You Seen Your Mother, Baby, Standing in the Shadow?" "Jumping Jack Flash," and "Street Fighting Man" display the Stones at their most powerful, while "Dandelion" and "She's a Rainbow" are the Stones succeeding with psychedelia. "Paint It, Black" and "Ruby Tuesday" strike a perfect balance. A decent introduction to an essential period of Stones music. --Rob O'Connor (less)Artist: The Rolling Stones | $8 - $24 11 Merchants |
| | After the frequently dark themes of his Warner Bros. years, James Taylor lightened his approach in the '80s and '90s with gentle affirmations such as "That's Why I'm Here" and "Shed a Little Light." Greatest Hits Volume 2 , a sequel to the 1976 disc that has sold 11 million copies, covers this material with a generous 16 cuts. Unfortunately, thanks to the often too-polite production and a couple too many oldies covers ("Handy Man" is exquisite, "Up on the Roof" and "Everyday" somnolent), the work here is uneven and blurred together. A handful of gems do prevail, though; especially notable are "Secret o' Life"--perhaps Taylor's truly wisest song ever--and "(I've Got to) Stop Thinkin' 'Bout That." --Rickey Wright (less)Artist: James Taylor | $4 - $19 13 Merchants |
| | This double CD collects not only Brother Ray's best-known '50s and '60s singles, but some choice semi-obscurities (the 1953 jump blues "Mess Around," his 1959 cover of Louis Jordan's "Don't Let the Sun Catch You Cryin'") that earn their places next to "What'd I Say" and "I Can't Stop Loving You." The man's originality and infectious feeling bleed through on each of these 36 tracks, whether he's transforming "One Mint Julep" or "America the Beautiful" or collaborating (separately) with Willie Nelson and Chaka Khan. --Rickey Wright (less)Artist: Ray Charles | $30 - $125 4 Merchants |
