The Power Option Passing Game with Gerald Brence, Plano Senior HS (TX) Head Coach; 2X Texas 5A Coach of the Year Plano High football squad may be know for the power option, but its passing game has also played a big part in winning three 5A Texas state championships. Coach Brence keeps the passing game very simple, only throwing the ball 10 to 15 times per game. His quarterbacks are given one or two receiver routes with instruction to run if the options are covered. All of the pass plays diagrammed in this DVD are designed to keep defenses honest against a strong running team. The Quick Pass works well against the eight-man front or soft corners when the defense is stacked against the option. The Tunnel Screen is an excellent counter to the sweep. Hot Routes are used to counter Plano's best running play, the Tight End Load. Other plays to counter the option include the 18/19 Sweep, which will counter a free safety keying on the quarterback. Front and Backside Post Routes and Trips stretch the field and keep the other defensive backs honest. Brence also discusses his Bootleg scheme, which complements Plano's inside running plays. As a bonus, Brence explains three of his favorite misdirection plays, including two reverses. Finally, Brence explains 12 everyday passing drills for the quarterback, wide receiver and offensive linemen. This video is an excellent complement to Coach Brence's Installing the Power Option DVD. 52 minutes. 2006. In this presentation, he will show you how to hide your coverages by playing pre-snap defense and making proper reads. Using game footage, DeLoach provides instruction for 2-deep zone, 3-deep zone, halves, quarters, press man, and off man coverages.
