 | Swedish singer Bosson was nominated for a "Best Original Song" Golden Globe Award for this album's lead-off cut and single "One in a Million." Its free-floating, lightweight pop perfectly reflects the lighthearted humor that underpins Sandra Bullock's film about an undercover FBI agent sent to infiltrate the Miss America pageant. Beats per minute are kept at a brisk, steady pace as even old-time showboater Tom Jones has his kitsch-classic "She's a Lady" remixed and hyper-energized by electronica artist BT. The Baha Men, who last let the dogs out, try for hit number two with "Get Yer Party On." A*Teens provide a smooth remake of Abba's "Dancing Queen," while Los Lobos update the Wilson Pickett R&B classic "Mustang Sally." Southern Culture on the Skids, with the help of a festive horn section, keep things lively with "Liquored Up and Lacquered Down." No question here, there's a party goin' on. --Rob O'Connor (less)Artist: Various Artists - Soundtracks | $16 - $48 3 Merchants |

| | Here comes the rocking sophomore effort from an actual sophomore--in high school. Jenny Wolfe was just thirteen when her first album, Jenny Wolfe and the Pack , was recorded, and her voice was mature and stunning then. Now she's older, wiser, and ready to rock, with her solo album, After School . Jenny's amazing voice already packed a punch, now it knocks you out. With a rock and roll heart and an uncanny ability to make classic songs her own, Jenny shines on Dancing in the Streets , Baby It's You , and I Want You Back . But she's also nailing producer Freddie Steady Krc's undiscovered power pop gems, along with two tracks that she and Krc wrote together (the title track and Twisted Smile ). It's clear now what Texas teen Jenny Wolfe will be doing After School in a few years. But you don't have to wait. It's After School right now. (less)Artist: Jenny Wolfe | $10 - $16 7 Merchants |
| | Footloose is only one of a batch of dance-movies-turned-musicals from the late-'90s, but it's probably the best. Unlike Fame , it gives an audience the movie songs it expects to hear, and unlike Saturday Night Fever , it complements those songs with newly written, honest-to-goodness book songs that support the plot (written by Dean Pitchford and Tom Snow, who wrote songs for the original film). Like the 1984 Kevin Bacon film that inspired it, Footloose follows the story of Ren (Jeremy Kushnier), who moves with his mother (Catherine Cox) to a small town where dancing is prohibited by law. Teens will be teens, of course, so Ren ends up at odds with the town and especially the local minister, Reverend Moore (Stephen Lee Anderson). Along the way, the characters sing familiar songs from the movie ("The Girl Gets Around," "Holding Out for a Hero," "Let's Hear It for the Boy," "Almost Paradise," and of course the title tune), but the new songs are enjoyable as well. | | LIONESSE* aka (Ericka Kane) is here to perform. At 4 years of age singing in her family..s church choir in Detroit, Music was the family business. Her godmother Martha Reeves (..Dancin.. in the street..) of Motown fame knew A star was in the making. Lionesse..s first recording in a studio came at 8 years of age. She began writing and arranging songs with anyone who would listen. She enrolled in dance classes for ballet, tap, jazz, and gymnastics to hone her skills. She attended from the Detroit High School of the Fine Arts/Performing with other talented teens like Aaliyah and Tierra Marie. She began dancing for a group signed to Biv 10 Records under the leadership of Michael Bivins of New Edition. As a songwriter, Lionesse* has songs recorded by noted recording artists such as Latocha Scott of Xscape (Solo Flight 404). Lionesse* has 1.experience 2.confidence and 3.dedication to the craft that translate to a dynamic force. An enchanted mix of old school R&B vocals mixed with Hip Hop ... | | On their second album, this Canadian family trio (teenaged brother and sister Amanda and Tyler and their 44-year-old dad Steve) attempt to break some new and mature musical ground while still dancing with the sort of mawkish teen-puppy tunes that brought them this far. Wholesome and utterly charming doodles like "Jimmy's Got a Girlfriend," "It Was Only a Kiss," "1999," and "Don't Look at Me Like That" are little more than energetic and ephemeral odes to underage broken hearts. Yet Amanda and Tyler both show individual flashes of vocal maturity and conviction on songs like the beautiful "Shame on Me" and a deeply felt coming-of-age ballad called "The Only Rose." On the strength of these two songs alone, the Wilkinsons' musical gifts seem destined to continue to blossom and serve them well--that is, if they manage to survive all the teen crushes and adolescent angst they sing so convincingly about here. --Bob Allen (less)Artist: The Wilkinsons | $1 - $2 2 Merchants |
| | Who would have thunk Goofy had such hipness in him? Probably the least funkiest or hippest 'toon in the Disney universe, he's not only gotten his own movie, he can also claim this hot soundtrack! Retro rules the day on An Extremely Goofy Movie Dance Party , with commanding remakes of "Shake Your Groove Thing" (performed by Peaches and Herb), "Right Back Where We Started From" (done by teen group Cleopatra), and a host of other older songs from a studio session band that revisits "Knock on Wood," "You Make Me Feel Like Dancing," and "Nowhere to Run." Pat Benatar, a staple of '70s and '80s radio, returns for a remake of "Future's So Bright I Gotta Wear Glasses," a cynical nod to tomorrow, and England's ska masters the Specials pump up the jam on the old Toots and the Maytals classic "Pressure Drop." Even the soundtrack's X Games themes have their moments. Closing with the Partridge Family's "Come On Get Happy," the disc finally gives away its well-conceived marketing strategy: appeal ...
