| | After 25 chart-topping hits, the singing star becomes a movie star! George Strait makes his film debut in an entertaining look into the heart and soul of country music from Young Guns director Christopher Cain. Superstar Dusty Chandler (Strait) is tired of the smoke, the strobe lights and the overmiked sound of his arena spectaculars. One night, something snaps. "I'm just going to take a little walk," Dusty says as he walks out of the empty hall, ditching his beard, ponytail - and temporarily, his career - to reclaim his down-home country roots. But his manager (Leslie Ann Warren) retaliates: a stand-in (Kyle Chandler) lip-synchs his songs in concert. And a romance with a lovely rancher (Isabel Glasser) is on again, off again like a rodeo cowboy. The simple life can be complex, but it's nothing a revitalized country boy can't handle! But the title, Willie Nelson and Wynton Marsalis Play the Music of Ray Charles , explains it. The late Ray Charles, though perhaps best known as the de facto creator of soul music, was genuinely beyond category, combining gospel, blues, jazz, and country to form one of the most original styles in 20th-century music. Joined by Norah Jones on several of the 15 tunes in this 90-minute show (recorded in 2009 at New York's Lincoln Center), Marsalis and Nelson use Charles's songs to tell the tale of love that's found, then lost, and then found again. Most of the material is familiar ("Hallelujah I Love Her So," "Hit the Road Jack," "Crying Time," "Busted," "What'd I Say," "Unchain My Heart"), but there are a few surprises, like the deep blues "Losing Hand." And while the songs are performed more or less in Charles... (less) Director: Brad J. Fuss ♦ Actors: Willie Nelson, Wynton Marsalis, Norah Jones | $14 - $28 8 Merchants |

| | Twenty years' worth of country superstar Reba McEntire's engaging music videos are included on Reba: Video Gold 1 . The first thing that stands out is their consistent production quality. There isn't a single video from, say, the 1980s--an era that left a lot of artists with embarrassing promotional artifacts--in this collection, beginning with the 1986 "Whoever’s In New England," which casts McEntire as a stay-at-home wife whose busy husband may be cheating on her during business trips. "Sunday Kind of Love" takes a very different approach, setting its pop ballad in a World War II ballroom while, elsewhere, a wounded husband returns home from the war. Another unexpected setting accompanies McEntire’s cover of Don Everly’s "Cathy’s Clown," in which the song’s hard questions about a jilted man are transferred to the Wild West. "Fancy" is the biggest cliché in this anthology, in which Reba plays a big star returning to her rustic roots, while "Is There Life Out There" finds...
