| | With a gentle, childlike innocence, Goofy has delighted audiences for 70 years. For the first time ever, celebrate Walt Disney's lumbering, lovable, and eternally loyal everyman in this retrospective of his classic animated shorts and enjoy the heyday of one of the most popular characters in cartoon history. Unlike the rest of Disney's "mouse pack," Goofy didn't become a major movie star overnight. This compilation of shorts begins with the Goof's first starring role. The volume also includes animator Art Babbitt's original descriptive reference of all things Goofy, the original voice behind the Goof, Pinto Colvig, and an exclusive interview with the current voice of Goofy, Bill Farmer. You'll also have the opportunity to see theatrical posters and other memorabilia, a selection of story drawings, and background paintings. After all, it's the Goofy thing to do. Featuring exclusive introductions by film historian Leonard Maltin, this is a timeless collection from generat... (less)Walt Disney Home Video | $87 amazon.com |

| | With its shaky five-season tenure (1995-99) including a dozen different time slots and only one major Emmy nomination, the outstanding NewsRadio is the atypical sitcom of its age. While most of the '90s sitcoms were based around a single big name talent (Jerry Seinfeld, Candice Bergen, Drew Carrey), NewsRadio came from the same stock from earlier shows Taxi and Cheers : a relatively unknown cast that rarely ventured away from the place of business. These first 29 episodes (7 as a mid-season replacement the first year), deliver a consistently hilarious show about the day-to-day life with the eccentric staff of New York radio station WNYX. Creator Paul Simms ( The Larry Sanders Show ) built a talented cast relying on expert delivery and character traits instead of goofy situations. The most famous cast member, Saturday Night Live 's Phil Hartman, went against the grain of most SNL veterans and gleefully took a supporting role, the pompous, silver-tongued anchor Bill McNeal. The lead--... | | "We're not going be here forever together," billionaire and WNYX station owner Jimmy James (Stephen Root) says at one point to the cracked NewsRadio team. "Eventually, we're going to have to move on with our lives." That time came too soon for this endearingly goofy series, which could not overcome the shocking and tragic murder of perhaps its most beloved ensemble member, nor network indifference and low ratings. The fifth was News Radio 's last and least season, but only by this series' own high loopy standards. In fact, many years on, these episodes have aged surprisingly well. The heartbreaking season opener, which takes place following the funeral of news anchor Bill McNeal (said to be felled by a heart attack), honors the memory of the irreplaceable Phil Hartman with genuine affection and humor. Andy Dick, in particular, is movingly understated as Matthew, who idolized Bill and is in denial about his death. The second episode introduces Jon Lovitz, who costarred with Hartman o... | | If you're looking for a different kind of anime, Sakura Diaries might just fit the bill. It's a clever, quirky romantic comedy spiced up with lots of goofy humor and a splash of R-rated eroticism. Tuoma Inaba is your average country-boy loose in the big city. He arrives in Tokyo to take his college entrance exams, but Tuoma's not too bright and he fails them all. In short order our hero enrolls in a cram school, poses as a student at the prestigious Keio University in order to pursue one beautiful girl, and moves in with another--his cousin Urara who has a huge crush on him. Then things start to get complicated. This collector's edition contains all 12 episodes of Sakura Diaries . Because it is based on an uncensored version of the Japanese original, there are several differences between it and the earlier multivolume release on VHS and DVD. The plot remains essentially the same, but there's more nudity and newly translated subtitles, and there is no English dub. If you already own ... | | Lexx drifts into new territory in the third season when the giant insect-ship and its motley crew awaken from a 4,000-year hibernation circling a pair of planets locked in orbit and gripped in war. Hot-blooded Xev (Xenia Seeberg, the show's answer to Angelina Jolie) falls for the cunning Prince (sinister and seductive Nigel Bennett) of the desert planet Fire, while dead-man-walking Kai is adopted by the passive, pleasure-loving inhabitants of cool, clear Water. The four uncut episodes in this collection launch a season-long interplanetary epic of love, war, betrayal, and seduction, the latter complete with nudity unseen on TV broadcasts. The writing is inconsistent, but the goofy humor and villainous plots add enough odd bounces to keep it interesting, and the inventive set designs and digital effects (more imaginative than convincing) create a unique world for the series. The final episode ends on a cliffhanger concluded in Lexx 3.2 . --Sean Axmaker (less) Director: Stefan Ronowicz, Bruce McDonald, Stephen Manuel ♦ Actors: Brian Downey, Michael McManus, Xenia Seeberg, Jeffrey Hirschfield, Nigel Bennett | $15 - $26 3 Merchants |

| | Edison (Carrot Top) is a surfing would-be inventor who makes goofy Rube Goldberg-style gadgets. Here's a taste: a drinking glass with a forehead heater to prevent brain freeze. They're all pretty much like that. The chairman of a large corporation (Jack Warden), who had shown interest in Edison's "ideas," dies and leaves Edison in charge of his company. Another would-be benefactor (Larry Miller), beaten out of his inheritance by Edison, makes it his evil mission to wrest control of the company from the ne'er-do-well with the shock of silly hair. A thin formula on which to hang some amazingly unfunny gags, all done in a broad cartoon-style, but with no flair. Puts the stupid in Stupid Comedy, then takes out all the comedy. Well, okay, not all. The videotaped will takes the form of a game show, presenting things to be inherited as prizes in the manner of Wheel of Fortune , complete with its own Vanna White. The rest is one lame attempt at a joke after another, with some time ta... | | While strongman Goliath is busy battling a fire-spewing three-headed doggie and a giant bat-monster in the "Cave of Horrors," his brother Illus has made the mistake of falling in love with the bride-to-be of evil King Eurystheus (played by Broderick Crawford). Responsible for the death of Goliath's parents, Eurystheus captures Illus and sentences him to death. Worse, a centaur kidnaps Goliath's wife and delivers her to the temperamental tyrant. Naturally, Goliath goes ballistic, flexes his muscles, and clobbers all the king's men. "Goliath and the Dragon" comes complete with "A Cast of Thousands," goofy monsters, elephant wrestling, temple wrecking, a Goliathquake, and a comical midget!
