| | Listen to Hipster's Holiday and you'll feel like you just spent Christmas in the coolest nightclub on Earth. "Silent Night" swings in Tim Fuller's Vegas-lounge setting while Lambert, Hendricks & Ross lay on the playful jazz vocals in "Deck Us All with Boston Charlie" and John Greer dictates that "We Wanna See Santa Claus Do the Mambo." And so it goes, 18 totally hip tracks with lots of dancing opportunities--and some comic relief from Pearl Bailey with "Five Pound Box of Money" and Eartha Kitt from 1953, making history with her now classic "Santa Baby." The showstopper, however, in a lineup that exudes cool, from Miles Davis and Lionel Hampton to the Marquees, Lena Horne, and Mabel Scott, comes from Louis Armstrong and his Commanders. Their romping versions of "Cool Yule" and "'Zat You, Santa Claus" are must-hears for any kid. Armstrong again conquers with his All Stars in a lively panoramic view of "Christmas Night in Harlem." If this dynamo set can't jump-start your holiday season... (less)Artist: Various Artists | $9 - $16 8 Merchants |
| | Only the miracle of Christmas, it seems, could bring Johnny Mathis and the Backstreet Boys together on one CD. In the spirit of Radio Disney's first holiday CD, Radio City Holiday Jams 2 promises to please preteens (and their parents, too) with an eclectic, even schizophrenic mix of old and new holiday songs. Particularly hipster-rific songs like Hilary Duff's "Santa Claus Lane" (sounds a bit like Liz Phair if you could picture her singing about open sleighs) intermingle with more old-fashioned hits like Burl Ives's rendition of "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer" and Gene Autry's "Here Comes Santa Claus." No Secrets contributes the boppy "Go Girlfriend (Have a Merry Christmas)," B2K revisit "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town" with some serious attitude (better not pout, man), and we accompany the Ghost of Christmas Past to witness the Jackson 5 singing "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus." Forget the sugarplums--this inventive holiday CD will have you and your kids dancing. --Karin Snelson (less)Artist: Disney | $30 - $33 2 Merchants |

| | Disney's new carol collection is sure to set sugarplums dancing in future hipsters' heads. All the usual suspects turn up on this jingle-bell best: Hilary Duff's "Santa Claus Lane," familiar to fans from her own Christmas release, gets a springy North Pole remix, Raven-Symone vamps it up Supremes-style on "My Christmas Wish," and Skye Sweetnam and Ashlee Simpson scribble their names on the naughty list courtesy of their contributions--"Why Doesn't Santa Like Me?" and "Christmas Past, Present and Future" respectively. Capping this squeal-and-giggle sleigh ride is a Christmas version of the Disney chestnut "Circle of Life," but if that track prompts peace-on-earth placidity don't expect it to last: Jingle Jams delivers plenty of joy, but stops far short of a silent night. --Tammy La Gorce (less)Disney | $5 amazon.com |
