Like a convoy of golden eight-track memories, the signature songs of rebel rockers Lynyrd Skynyrd, George Thorogood, and Charlie Daniels are accompanied by a handful of lesser offerings (that Molly Hatchet, .38 Special, Marshall Tucker stretch is slow goin') and north-of-the-Mason-Dixon-line ringers such as Mountain and the Band. Sure, the vibe is strictly good ole boy (unless you count Ram Jam's version of Leadbelly's "Black Betty"), but any compilation that can segue from the pop strains of Pure Prairie League's "Aime" to the crunchy goodness of Joe Walsh's "Rocky Mountain Way" can't be all bad. --Bill Forman  (less)
