| | 2006 digitally remastered edition of the former Edgar Winter Group guitarist's solo debut album. Includes the Top 40 single and Rock N Roll anthem "Rock N Roll Hoochie Koo". Rick Derringer found fame as guitar player and singer with band The McCoys in the 1960's and enjoyed a worldwide pop hit with "Hang On Sloopy". Derringer later worked with both Johnny and Edgar Winter and has also played on albums by Alice Cooper, Steely Dan and Todd Rundgren. Derringer made several solo albums starting with "All American Boy" in 1974. Its garish pin-up style cover created a big impact and the music proved equally attractive. 12 tracks in all on the album, including the instrumentals "Joy Ride" and "Time Warp", both of which display all the different facets of Derringer's exuberant musical expertise. | | After the disorganized and often unlistenable Alan Douglas-produced reissues in the '70s and '80s, MCA has been releasing the vast Hendrix archives in an intelligent and methodical manner. Blues is a perfect example, making the case that--on top of everything else--Jimi Hendrix was one fine blues guitarist. Combining the fluid lines of B.B. King with the spikiness of Hubert Sumlin and the crying tone of Elmore James with his usual synapse-frying intensity, Hendrix manages to both honor the music tradition while remaining uniquely himself. These studio outtakes and warm-ups (plus one previously released track, the magnificent "Hear My Train a Comin'") include a playful "Mannish Boy," the slow burn of "Once I Had A Woman," and a metallic "Bleeding Heart." --Steven Mirkin (less)Artist: Jimi Hendrix | $7 - $21 13 Merchants |
| | UK pressing is packaged in a slip case. The compilation features the cream of the material the star recorded between 1969 and 1987. David Bowie remains impossible to pigeonhole - first there was Ziggy Stardust, Aladdin Sane, a White Soul Boy and a Thin White Duke. He went on to invent synth-pop with Tony Visconti and Brian Eno and then disappeared behind the make-up of Pierrot when the New Romantics mixed all of his eras together. And then, he became a truly global megastar in the 80s. This collection contains four UK No. 1s, 15 Top 10, six Top 20 and 14 Top 75 hits; 338 weeks of UK chart history. But David Bowie could never be contained by statistics alone: any collection that contains Starman, The Jean Genie, Fame, "Heroes", Sound and Vision, Ashes To Ashes, Under Pressure and Let's Dance spells it plainly - this is a collection of some of the greatest and best-known music of the 20th Century by one of its very finest performers. 57 tracks in total. EMI. 2005. (less) Artist: David Bowie | $15 - $41 12 Merchants |
| | It's tough to forecast which bands are built for the long run. The Eagles emerged as part of a genre (country rock) that proved to be a passing fancy. And with two talented frontmen sharing the spotlight, how could artistic differences be fended off for long? But, of course, Don Henley, Glenn Frey, and the boys had a juggernaut on their hands, generating a dozen top 10 hits in their initial eight-year spurt. Selected Works: 1972-1999 gathers all the highlights from the group in all of its '70s and early '80s glory on three discs, dubbed "The Early Years," "The Ballads," and "The Fast Lane." The handsome box is fleshed out with a live disc from New Year's Eve 1999. With striking packaging, extensive liner notes, and a surplus of vintage photos, Selected Works is a suitable retrospective on a band that defined the California sound and took it easy, and, in the process, took it to the limit. --Steven Stolder (less)Artist: Eagles | $26 - $62 9 Merchants |
| | The Transporter, the movie, was a Top 5 box office action smash. In the sequel, Jason Statham returns in his signature role as ex-Special Forces operative Frank Martin, aka "The Transporter." Now "retired" in Miami, Frank makes a living as a driver for a wealthy family, including their young son, with whom he has unexpectedly bonded. But when the boy is abducted you just know Frank is going to take action. He uses all of his special skills to bring the boy to safety and discover the kidnapper's master plan. Musically, the soundtrack to Transporter 2 features just the sort of driving music you'd expect to propel a top notch action flick. First up to kick some ass is cast member Kate Nauta, who checks in with the funk rocking "Revolution." From the UK, the Servant first got attention in the U.S. via the much demanded instrumental for the "Sin City" movie trailer. That song, "Cells", was unavailable on the "Sin City" soundtrack and is present here in its vocal version. It ... (less)Artist: Original Soundtrack | $11 - $23 10 Merchants |

| | Quick and to the point, Sasquatch is about as close as Small Stone is going to get to signing a local band from right here in the Motor City (hey, two out of three members ain’t bad). But make no mistake: this is no watered down MTV-friendly garage rock band. Our boys from Sasquatch eat, drink, and breathe rock’n’roll. From the top of their Mojave stacks to the toes of their electro harmonix pedals, these three down-to-earth guys simply love to rock – and they do it with a sincerity not often seen in today’s world of plastic pop and gimmicky garage. Formed in Los Angeles back in 2001 by Philadelphia transplant Keith Gibbs and Detroit natives Rick Ferrante and Clayton Charles, Sasquatch has had the pleasure of refining their own brand of super heavy, bone crunching rock’n’roll onstage with some of LA’s finest, including Fireball Ministry, Nebula and Unida. Drawing on influences from ‘70s metal, rock and psychedelia, their songwriting approach is simple, relying on... (less)Artist: Sasquatch | $13 - $23 2 Merchants |
| | While everyone around them was celebrating resolutely white-boy, hedonistic, 1960s-inspired Britpop, the four Londoners who make up Skunk Anansie released a multiracial, politically-charged debut in 1995 that owed a greater debt to the funk-rock of Sly & the Family Stone and Living Colour and to the metal mightiness of prime Black Sabbath. Lyrically, in "Intellectualize My Blackness" and the "100 Ways to Be a Good Girl," vocalist Skin directly confronts prejudice and throws it back in the faces of its vessels. "Selling Jesus" and "I Can Dream" showcase her voice pretty much at the height of its power. Indeed, Paranoid & Sunburnt captures the band in top form. --Everett True (less)Artist: Skunk Anansie | $11 - $12 2 Merchants |
