| | For more than thirty years Jim Capaldi has been on top of popular music and this year, on March 15th, was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame with Traffic. A regular gig in the mid sixties with his band Deep Feeling at the legendary night club, The Elbow Room in Birmingham, England, became the birthplace of Traffic. Steve Winwood was attracted to this early type of psychedelic music which Jim was then playing and was impressed by the large following Deep Feeling were building. Winwood often would come along to jam and as his friendship grew closer and Traffic was born. The rest is history. Apart from Traffic’s ten album, multi platinum career, fuelled by Jim’s writing partnership with Steve, Jim has enjoyed a solo career with twelve albums to date. With his new recording, Poor Boy Blue, Jim was keen to explore his roots and used quite a lot of classic instrumentation to achieve the particular sound he was looking for on this album. The basis for the album and most wor... (less)Artist: Jim Capaldi | $10 - $18 9 Merchants |

| | You've never heard anything like Joseph Spence. The inimitable Bahamian singer and guitarist (and stonemason) recorded sporadically in the '50s, '60s, and '70s, displaying matchless guitar technique that, insisted the man who supervised this 1971 session, surpassed "the musicianship of almost all nonclassical guitarists." On top of his expert albeit unconventional playing, Spence growled, murmured, and scatted his way through a distinctive repertoire that included sea chanties, hymns, and pop tunes. This spontaneous 21-song album was recorded in a Boston apartment with Spence playing a borrowed Martin D-18. Surrounded by a circle of devotees, he comfortably sails through the likes of "Sloop John B." (it was a folk song before the Beach Boys got hold of it), "Will the Serpent Be Unbroken" (notice the revised title), and Spence's personal anthem, "Out on the Rolling Sea." In a single word: singular. --Steven Stolder (less)Artist: Joseph Spence | $10 - $18 9 Merchants |

| | Culture Club were one of the biggest pop bands of the 80s, racking up seven straight Top 10 hits in the UK and 9 Top 10 singles in the US. Central to the band's appeal was the flamboyant front man Boy George, whose cross-dressing and heavy make-up created an image which was completely unique on the pop scene. Although they drew influence from the new romantic movement, Culture Club were also inspired by the music and fashion of Northern Soul, which helped to create a broader appeal. This collection features remixes of some of their most memorable work and is another example of the timeless, ever popular sound of the '80s. 14 tracks. EMI Gold. 2006. | | Though countless Rolling Stones zealots contend that the band's most compelling work bubbled to the top prior to 1973, the music department at Starbucks has unearthed a sundry collection of B-sides, live takes and unreleased studio recordings culled mostly from the three decades that followed. Cherry-picking from a selection many times larger than the 14 tracks presented here, the compilation's producers reach as far back as a 1971 live cover of Chuck Berry's "Let It Rock" and navigate through the Stones' forays into blues (Muddy Waters' "Mannish Boy" from 1977; "Fancy Man Blues" from 1989), rhythm & blues (1986's "Harlem Shuffle" and a 1998 live take of Let It Bleed's "Live With Me") and disco (the seven-minute dance mix of the 1978 hit "Miss You"), as well as stripped-down 1995 versions of Glimmer Twins gems "Wild Horses" and "Tumbling Dice." The accompanying compendium of liner notes and band member comments testify that the Rolling Stones still believe that rock and roll will ne...
