 | Known for "wildly imaginative, emotionally charged virtuoso playing," Triple Helix was named "2002 Musicians of the Year" and for three consecutive years "Best Chamber Music in Boston" by The Boston Globe. The group’s "splendid musical chemistry and virtually perfect dynamic balance" was heralded by The Los Angeles Times. Each of the three pieces on this recording is written from the core of the composer’s heritage or early experience, capturing the heartbeat and cadences of a people in a particular landscape at a particular point in time. The Ravel contains the haunting and lilting qualities of his native Basque music. Shostakovich captures some of the stark and grisly atmosphere of the Nazi death camps, along with other moments in his life during that period. And the Sheng evokes the harmonies and timbres of the Chinese folk instruments of his native land. This exceptional ensemble was formed in 1995 by three internationally acclaimed chamber musicians: Bayla Keyes, foundi... (less)Artist: | $10 - $13 4 Merchants |

The dedicatee of the 25th International Viola Congress, which honored his revolutionary contributions to the field of viola performance, he holds a 50-year combined record as principal violist of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Philadelphia Orchestra. His signature rendition of Berlioz’s Harold in Italy has become a reference work for students of the piece. And heading a distinguished musical family, he is violist of the De Pasquale String Quartet, joining with family members William and Robert, violinists, and Gloria, cellist – all members of the Philadelphia Orchestra. Mr. De Pasquale’s years with the Boston Symphony spanned the tenures of conductors Koussevitsky, by whom he was appointed principal violist, Munch and Leinsdorf; during that time he premiered the Piston Viola Concerto, which had been written for! him, and tho... | | The classic disc from New York's groundbreaking Indo-pop pioneers. Featuring the acrobatic voice, urban tinged sitar and infectious composition of Chris Rael, the ferocious tabla of Deep Singh, and a cast of NYC's finest progressive musicians, Tripping With Wanda wanders from lacerating psychedelia to sultry Eastern rock to heartaching ballads. COB's unique mix of Indian instruments, electric rock instruments and string orchestra was called 'irresistible' by the New York Times, 'brilliant' by Billboard, and 'musical and cultural fusion of the first order' by the Boston Herald. Wanda was originally released in 2002, when COB was regularly filling Greenwich Village's legendary Bottom Line, appearing on NPR, and living at the epicenter of Downtown's art music scene. It was a golden time, and the music is as provocative now as the day it was made. Find out why! (less)Artist: Church of Betty | $10 - $11 4 Merchants |
| | theINFORMATI is the musical collaboration between a young, progressive composer and a postmodern, experimental guitarist. Their first self-produced, independently released album, Requiem, is a startlingly mature example of 2 musicians far beyond their time. By fusing together classical arrangements and language with modern instruments and styles, theINFORMATI have defied genre and look to leave a lasting impression on the contemporary landscape of music. Written and recorded over 18 months, theINFORMATI have carefully crafted a record that blends together electronic rhythms and pianos with psychedelic guitars and dub bass, all the while being entirely sung in Latin for 60 minutes, Heavily inspired by British acts, Radiohead and Massive Attack, TS and Mark sought out a studio that would house the proper tools necessary to create such a competitive, dynamic record. The magic took place at Sanctum Sound in Boston, where the studio s owner, Steve Catizone, served as both Engineer an... (less)Artist: The Informati | $10 - $13 3 Merchants |
| | This beautiful bass / piano duo album presents a meeting between two generations of great Polish Jazz players. Veteran bassist Bronislaw Suchanek was one of the most prominent players on the Polish modern Jazz scene, playing with top names, like Tomasz Stanko (see the groundbreaking legendary 'Music For K' album). He left Poland during the turbulent years of Socialist regime, first to Sweden and later to USA, where he lives now. He played with other Polish expatriates (Leszek Zadlo, Wladyslaw Sendecki and Janusz Stefanski) in the Polski Jazz Ensemble. Dominik Wania is a Polish pianist, with an impressive list of musical achievements in spite of his young age. Wania traveled to Boston, to get his Masters degree in music and there he met Suchanek. This album is a result of their musical cooperation. Both players are virtuoso performers on their respective instruments and their cooperation is in perfect sync, creating great exchange of ideas and interplay. Both musicians contribute equ... | | Jake Armerding's fifth album of originals, Her , is a collection of love songs that may have to do with the fact that he got married last fall. Jake's live shows deliver the fusion of bluegrass, blues, folk, pop, classical and rock that has come to be known as Americana and showcase songs from his new album. An early reviewer states, 'Jake has become one of the most melodically and lyrically gifted songwriters on the circuit today. His songs continue a trend of defying easy characterization. His deft use of electric and acoustic instruments, keyboards and percussion never hides lyrical impact, leaving his tender tenor vocals out front.' 'This is organic music,' the Boston singer-songwriter-violinist offers about Her . 'It's a bunch of guys playing their instruments and singing, and getting taped while they're doing it. There's no pitch correction, no chemicals, nothing.' Armerding and his 'bunch of guys' -- Boston musical heavies Mark Erelli, Zack Hickman, Billy Beard and others -... | | "Supersaturated" is the third album and latest offering from the primarily Boston-based band The Singhs. The versatile and eclectic five-piece group brings its extensive musical skills to bear on the most mature and polished work they've created in the 7 years they've been working together. The Singhs' first album "The Edge of The World" (2003) explored the vocabulary of classic rock anthems and soft ballads; and the second, "Blind" (2005) went Eastwards in its influences, blending traditional Indian instruments with a high-energy rock sound. Now, after over three years of writing, arranging and recording many dozens of new songs, the twelve tracks that comprise "Supersaturated" take a very contemporary approach spanning modern rock, pop, and funk elements. Densely layered guitars and textured keyboard parts give way to intimate acoustic passages, while deep funk and a dance grooves often underpin rich multipart vocal harmonies, inviting comparisons with groups as diverse as M...
