| | It's been a while since this town turned out a fresh folk outfit. Enter HoneyHoney, a duo from Venice that infuses indie rock, country, jazz and the blues into it's folk bedrock. On the band's debut LOOSE BOOTS, the unconventional mash up works beautifully. There are sweet, homespun folk songs, rabble-rousing diddyups and even a profanity laced ditty about a guy who's not moving fast enough toward the boudoir for his lady friend - Los Angeles Times (less)Artist: Honey Honey | $2 - $13 7 Merchants |
| | The Aggrolites are one of the world's hardest working bands and with serious talent to boot. While out on tour they knew when they arrived back in LA there was no time to relax, it would be straight into the studio for their second album with Hellcat Records. The title track from Reggae Hit L.A. says it all. It reflects two concepts the band formed while touring. One: The desire to represent who they are and where they come from. Los Angeles is in their blood--the culture, the weather, the complexities of the city of angels. Two: While touring the U.S., the Aggrolites were reminded that they love the fact that LA has a reggae scene: one they can dig every week of the year and that's worth talking about. It’s not something you can find in the heartland. Another track from this album that explains the Aggrolites position on things is "Work It." With its simple lyrics and traditional reggae M.O., the band found a platform to express their pride in being able to get the job done w... (less)Artist: The Aggrolites | $9 - $20 9 Merchants |
| | Whoever said punk is dead hasn't heard the all-new release from Killroy. It's been 25 years since these young hooligans first sported their foot-high liberty spikes around the Los Angeles hardcore scene, but you'd never know it because their sound is as fresh and furious as ever. Originally inspired by early 1980s British Oi! invasion bands such as The Cockney Rejects and Sham 69 mashed up with early LA punk influences like The Weirdoes, these raucously retro sing-along classics will have you polishing up those old Doc Martens and breaking out your studded leather jacket to hit the streets for some seriously rollicking fistraising and boot-stomping action.
