 | (2-LP set) This May 17th, 1966 concert, in which Dylan played electric material in front of a British audience, was actually recorded in Manchester. Even those who've owned this recording for many a year should be tempted by this official package, as it has been expanded to include the 8 electric rock songs from the original bootleg, but also the 7 solo acoustic performances that comprised the first half of the show. There's also a 56-page booklet with a fine essay by Dylan's friend Tony Glover (a notable folk musician in his own right). This is not just an interesting adjunct to Dylan's '60s discography; it's as worthy of attention as anything else he recorded during that decade. (less)Artist: Bob Dylan | $88 - $96 2 Merchants |

It's assembled from a variety of sources, including home recordings, publishing demos, alternate studio takes, and live recordings, with the first disc devoted to early acoustic recordings and the second to electric music. In fact, No Direction Home proceeds chronologically, filling in gaps between the proper albums or, more often, providing a parallel history of the most productive era of Dylan's career. This deluxe set includes two alternate cover art gatefold jackets ( Blonde On Blonde and Bringing It All Back Home ) and a 60+ page 12x12 booklet all housed in an a special outer box. | | The brooding Bob Dylan of the 1966 live collection in the Dylan bootleg series gave way to an even more hooded character on the second live bootleg album from 1974. Which makes the jump back to a younger Dylan in this set all the more jarring. Here is Dylan as an eager-to-please 23 year old with nothing between him and his worshippers but a guitar, a harmonica, and, for four songs, his lover, Joan Baez. In marked contrast to the acerbic electric Dylan of the mid-'60s and the tight-lipped living legend of the mid-'70s, here is Dylan as entertainer. Joking and bantering with the crowd, Dylan deals up some favorites ("The Times They Are A-Changin'," "Don't Think Twice, It's All Right"), but is already shedding his earnest folkie persona; imagine another artist a mere two years into his career declining to perform a hit on the scale of "Blowin' in the Wind." But Dylan was moving fast. Having completed the last all-acoustic collection of his early years three months before the Philharmon... (less)Classic Compact Disc | $110 amazon.com |

| | The most famous bootleg in rock history, with the possible exception of Dylan's own Basement Tapes, finally made its official appearance 32 years after the event and nearly 30 years after it started circulating underground. Although often identified as a Royal Albert Hall show, this May 17, 1966 concert, in which Dylan played electric material in front of a British audience, was actually recorded in Manchester (hence the unwieldy title with quotes around "Royal Albert Hall"). Even those who've owned this recording for many years should be tempted by this official package, as it has been expanded to include the eight electric rock songs from the original bootleg but also the seven solo acoustic performances that comprised the first half of the show. It's all in great fidelity. More importantly, the electric half in particular is an important document of rock history. It captures the point at which Dylan was at his most controversial and hard rocking as he blazes through mid-'60s clas... (less)Classic Records | $73 amazon.com |
| | Another in the series of Classic Legacy Bob Dylan bootleg series. This edition was cut by Bernie Grundman from the half-inch analog master tape on Classic's all-tube cutting system and features a deluxe box housing three LPs - each in unique jackets. It also includes a 60-page, 12 by 12 perfect bound booklet and a 12 by 8 letter pressed vintage tour poster. This Halloween gig at Philharmonic Hall in New York was a special part of the tour for Another Side of Bob Dylan, arguably his greatest acoustic recording. What's more poignant, however, is how it previews the material on Bringing It All Back Home. While the songs on Another Side hinted at things to come, nothing could have prepared audiences for the dreamy surrealism of "Mr. Tambourine Man" or the nightmarish abstract poetry of "It's Alright Ma (I'm Only Bleeding)." There are stirring protest and topical songs, folk songs, humorous narratives, love songs, great wisecracks and talking blues. Track Listing Side One 1. The Times Th... | | This September 1957 session, recorded by Rudy Van Gelder in Hackensack finds the young Morgan (age 19) in the company of an interesting mix of players. Paul Chambers and Philly Joe Jones are present on bass and drums, Pepper Adams in on baritone sax and the inclusion of pianist Bobby Timmons give these particular sides a nice edge. Morgans interplay with Adams horn gives a new perspective to his patented rapid-fire lines. Having assumed his place in the majors from his childhood idol, the late Clifford Brown (d. 1956), Morgan was on the assent in 57 with a series of recordings for Blue Note which helped establish him in his short lifetime (33 years) as one of the greatest bop trumpeters. The Cooker contains two Morgan originals, Heavy Dipper and New-Ma , with standards Just One Of Those Things , A Night In Tunisia and Lover Man completing the album. | | One of the more unique recordings in the Blue Note 1500 series, trombonist Bennie Green oversees a cool mix of swing, blues and mambo arrangements, including vocal contributions by the leader himself and the great Babs Gonzales. With his bone tone still rooted in the swing era, Green was starting to take notice and become influenced by the emergence of soul and rhythm and blues, inviting Gene Ammons to sit in on tenor. Adding Billy Root as 2nd tenor creates a front line like no other while the legendary Sonny Clark handles the piano. Ike Isaacs bass and the brute-drumming of Elvin Jones round out the sextet. Highlights include a forceful We Wanna Cook plus heartbreaking takes of Thats All and Lullaby Of The Doomed . Mastered and cut from the original full track and pressed on Classics 200g Super Vinyl Profile. (less)Artist: Bennie Green | $33 - $36 2 Merchants |
